
JOHNSTOWN – Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) will host a bridge dedication ceremony honoring Private First Class (PFC) William P. O’Farrell on Thursday, May 21, at 10 a.m. at the Nanty Glo Fire Hall, 902 Chestnut Street, Nanty Glo.
After graduating from Nanty Glo-Vintondale High School, PFC O’Farrell enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. On April 17, 1968, one month after his tour began, PFC O’Farrell was killed in action by hostile fire in Quảng Trị province, South Vietnam. He is buried at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Nanty Glo, and his name is inscribed on Panel 50E, Line 32 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
To honor the life, service and sacrifice of PFC O’Farrell, the bridge carrying Pennsylvania Route 271 over Pergrim Run in Nanty Glo will be named the PFC William P. O’Farrell Memorial Bridge.
