HARRISBURG — Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) and Rep. Frank Burns (D-72) announced the approval of $8.2 million in state assistance for a critical water system improvement project in Cambria County.
The Highland Sewer and Water Authority has been awarded a $6 million non-repayment grant and a $2.2 million loan to complete the Croyle water project.
This project will support the transfer of ownership and operation of the Croyle Township Water Authority to the Highland Sewer and Water Authority to upgrade the delivery of drinking water to residents of Croyle Township, Jackson Township and Summerhill Borough.
Construction includes the installation of water mains, water service lines from the water main to the property line and water appurtenances necessary for proper operation. The project will also include the installation of new meter pits and residential service meters for customers in this service area to modernize metering and allow for better integration into Highland Sewer and Water Authority’s system.
“As a member of the PENNVEST Board of Directors, I am proud to have secured this funding, which will help replace aging systems and ensure local facilities meet current standards while protecting rate payers from a substantial increase,” said Langerholc. “Upgrading essential water infrastructure is vital to public safety and economic growth.”
“Without this funding, user fees would increase by a whopping 302 percent,” Burns said. “So, this is vital funding for the residents served by the Croyle system. It’s work that has to be done, and I’m glad the state is stepping up to the plate for these residents.”
PENNVEST is an independent agency of the commonwealth providing financial assistance to fund construction of drinking water, sewer and stormwater projects in communities throughout Pennsylvania. PENNVEST is not supported by the state’s General Fund budget, which covers the daily operations and services of the commonwealth. Langerholc serves on the PENNVEST Board of Directors.
