HARRISBURG – Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) today announced the approval of $400,000 in state funds to improve agricultural innovation in Cambria County.
Langerholc said the following Agriculture Innovation Grants are being awarded by the state Department of Agriculture:
- James Hite Farms of Patton is receiving $200,000 to upgrade equipment to improve crop spraying and planting efficiency.
- Weakland Family Farms of Portage is receiving $200,000 to upgrade sprayer equipment to enhance crop protection and efficiency.
“Our region’s farming tradition is long and rich. It is crucial we help farmers innovate in order to compete,” said Langerholc. “This funding will help farmers in the 35th Senate District. I am happy to support these grants.”
Agricultural Innovation Grants help farmers and other agriculture businesses implement new agricultural technologies, conservation and renewable energy innovations designed to expand their potential to generate profits, enrich soil and water resources, and produce energy on the farm.
Pennsylvania’s agriculture industry is made up of more than 53,000 farms supporting more than 600,000 jobs and contributing $132 billion to the state economy.
