CAMBRIA COUNTY – Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. and Rep. Jim Rigby today announced a $280,000 grant through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to fund a local project rehabilitating the Station Street walkway located in Ferndale Borough, Cambria County.
“Investing in local improvements is what keeps our beloved cities and towns thriving,” Sen. Langerholc said. “Our citizens, especially our children, deserve safe and dependable sidewalks to walk and play on. I am grateful to the CFA for funding this important project for Johnstown.”
Ferndale Borough is planning to replace the existing sidewalk, stairs, handrails, and retaining walls along the west side Ferndale School Building and Station Street between Midway Avenue and Saly Alley. The project will also include the removal of a large tree to properly stabilize the stepped sidewalk and retaining wall between Harlan Avenue and Saly Alley. The total cost of the project is $280,800.
“Grants like this are competitive in nature, so I commend borough officials for being proactive in dealing with this project,” Rigby said. “This is a much-needed upgrade for pedestrians in this part of Ferndale and I’m happy to be able to assist them with these necessary improvements.”
The grant was awarded by the CFA under its Multimodal Transportation Fund Program. The program is funded with money assessed by the Commonwealth through the state’s Impact Fee, which is paid by the state’s unconventional natural gas producers.
