The Greater Johnstown Career and Technical Center (CTC) has been awarded a more than $47,000 grant from the PA Department of Education to purchase new equipment that will give students hands-on training for careers needed by local employers, according to Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) and Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Johnstown).
Langerholc, who chairs the Senate Education Committee, has been a strong supporter of vocational education and work force development programs that prepare students for jobs that are in demand.
“This funding will enable the center to buy new equipment which is consistent with industry standards that will help students get the hands-on training they need for high-demand occupations,” Langerholc said. “It is crucial to providing area residents with skills that will help them obtain good-paying jobs and making our local economy stronger.”
“More and more students and their parents are realizing the benefits of career and technical education,” added Rigby. “A place like Greater Johnstown Career and Technical Center is ideal for starting a rewarding career with a chance to enter the workforce quickly, earn a good salary and emerge from school with zero – if any – debt.”
