Langerholc Announces Safe Schools Grants for Clearfield, Cambria County Schools

Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) today announced local recipients of competitive 2019-2020 Safe Schools Targeted Grants in Clearfield and Cambria Counties.

Langerholc said grants are awarded to schools to prevent and reduce violent incidents, to purchase safety and security-related equipment, and to provide for the training and compensation of school resource and police officers.

As the Chairman of the Senate Education Committee and a member of the School Safety and Security Committee, the safety of our children is paramount, and I am pleased to announce these vital grant dollars to our local school districts.” Langerholc said.  “It shows a bipartisan commitment to our youth in these unpredictable and uncertain times.”

The following grants were awarded for the purchase of safety and security-related equipment:

Equipment Grants

Cambria County

  • Greater Johnstown School District – $25,000
  • All Saints Catholic School – $13,828
  • Bishop McCort Catholic High School – $13,949
  • Divine Mercy Catholic Academy – $25,000
  • Holy Name School – $25,000
  • Saint Benedict Catholic School-Carrolltown – $25,000

Clearfield County

  • Dubois Area School District – $25,000
  • Curwensville Area School District – $21,600
  • West Branch Area School District – 24,950
  • Clearfield Alliance Christian School – $16,932

Program Grants

Cambria County

  • Greater Johnstown School District – $20,000

Clearfield County

  • Dubois Area School District – $19,994
  • Dubois Central Catholic – $1,818 

School Police Officer Grants

Clearfield County

  • Dubois Area School District – $39,980

School Resource Officer Grants

Cambria County

  • Richland School District – $59,996
  • Greater Johnstown School District – $60,000
  • Northern Cambria School District – $60,000

Clearfield County

  • Clearfield Area School District – $60,000

Senator Langerholc said Safe Schools grants are aimed at reducing unnecessary student disciplinary actions and promoting an environment of greater productivity, safety and learning. Funds can also be used for enhancing anti-violence efforts between schools and parents, local governments, law enforcement and community organizations.

“The awarding of these grants recognizes that education begins with ensuring a safe learning environment,” Langerholc said. “Our local schools will use these Safe Schools Targeted Grants to purchase equipment, implement programs and boost security presence in buildings.”
