HARRISBURG – Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) reaffirmed his commitment to protecting rural Pennsylvania by voting in favor of Senate Bill 6 and Senate Bill 1068, two key measures that promote government accountability, protect jobs, and safeguard local economies from harmful regulations.
Langerholc also delivered remarks on the Senate floor criticizing the governor’s continued neglect of rural Pennsylvania, citing the administration’s decisions to close SCI Rockview and the Quehanna Boot Camp as examples of how the administration has turned its back on rural communities.
“Rural Pennsylvania has once again been forgotten by this administration,” Langerholc said. “The closure of SCI Rockview and the Quehanna Boot Camp will devastate working families and weaken the very communities that serve the Commonwealth. Meanwhile, the Governor continues to push costly regulations like RGGI that destroy family-sustaining jobs and drive-up energy costs.”
Senate Bill 6 expands on the successful Streamlining Permits for Economic Expansion and Development (SPEED) program by making it applicable to all state agencies. The legislation also enhances permit transparency and oversight by requiring agencies to develop an accessible online tracking system that allows applicants to monitor the status of their permit applications.
Senate Bill 1068 repeals the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) regulation, which threatens Pennsylvania jobs and has resulted in increased energy costs for families and businesses, particularly in rural and energy-producing regions.
“I will always stand up for our rural communities, for the families, workers, and small businesses that form the backbone of our Commonwealth,” Langerholc said. “The people I represent want government to work with them, not against them. Rural Pennsylvania deserves better.”
Both Senate Bill 6 and Senate Bill 1068 now advance to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
