CLEARFIELD – Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) joined Rep. Mike Armanini (R-75), Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-171), Sen. Cris Dush (R-25), Rep. Dallas Kephart (R-73), and members of the House Republican Policy Committee today in State College for a public hearing to examine the community impact of the proposed closures of Quehanna Boot Camp and SCI Rockview.
The hearing emphasized the detrimental impact the proposed closures would have on the local community if the Department of Corrections moves forward with closing these facilities. Testimony from elected officials, corrections staff, and business leaders highlighted the essential role these facilities serve in supporting the regional economy and safeguarding public safety across the Commonwealth.
“Quehanna Boot Camp and SCI Rockview are well established, well-functioning efficient facilities. They need to stay in operation,” said Langerholc. “I stand with all the men and women who put on the uniform daily and will continue to work to find alternatives to closure.”
In February, the Shapiro Administration announced their intent to proceed with the proposed closures of the Quehanna Boot Camp in Clearfield County and SCI Rockview in Centre County.
Langerholc testified at the Quehanna Boot Camp listening session on April 10. The department will hold a listening session on the proposed closure of SCI Rockview on Tuesday, April 15, at 5 p.m. at Bald Eagle High School, 710 South Eagle Valley Road, Wingate.
If you would like to provide feedback to the Department of Corrections, the department is accepting comments via email to ra-crdocclose@pa.gov or by voicemail to 888-316-8950.
