
JOHNSTOWN – Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) will host a bridge dedication ceremony honoring Private First Class (PFC) Wallace Rice this Friday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at the Elton Sportsmen’s Club, 140 Circle Lane, Elton.
A graduate of Johnstown High School, PFC Rice enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II. On September 19, 1944, PFC Rice was wounded in the line of duty. For his sacrifice, he was awarded a Purple Heart. PFC Rice passed away on January 18, 1975, and is buried at Richland Cemetery in Richland Township, Cambria County.
To honor the service and sacrifice of PFC Rice, the bridge carrying State Route 56 over Walters Avenue in Richland Township will be renamed the PFC Wallace Rice Memorial Bridge.
