In this Update:
Introducing TSA National Champions to the SenateI had the opportunity to introduce an impressive group of young students on the floor of the Senate. Earlier this year these students competed at the Technology Student Association (TSA) National Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky. Students from Cambria Heights Middle School TSA Team placed 1st in the Inventions and Innovations Event. Team members on the floor included Luke Holtz, Logan Ivory, and Brock Wharton, as well as, their advisors Rachel Manack and Michele Schirf. Students from Northern Cambria Middle School TSA Team placed 1st in the Junior Solar Sprint Event. Team Members on the floor included Ava Kirsch, Maya Friedman, Emmy McCachren, and their advisors Matthew and Sarah Kline. Students from Westmont Hilltop Junior-Senior High School TSA Team placed 1st in the Virtual Reality Visualization Event. Team Members on the floor included Matthew Kindja, Gayath Karunaratne, Micah Jones, Chanith Jayasooriya, and advisors Garrett and Brenda Sidor. Alternatives to College ExpoThank you to all that attended and participated at the Alternatives to College Expo at Hope Fire Company of Northern Cambria. Widener University Commonwealth Law School Veterans Day CeremonyI participated Widener University Commonwealth Law School Veterans Day Ceremony and CLE: From the Battlefield to the Boardroom. Grant Gala at Admiral Peary Area Vocational Technical SchoolI attended the Grant Gala event at Admiral Peary Area Vocational Technical School announcing a $1 million dollar grant from the United States Department of Education. Thank you for the tour and conversation. Rail Discussion at Penn State AltoonaI would like to thank Penn State Altoona for the conversation on their Rail Transportation Engineering Degree. It is the only four-year degree of its kind in the nation. Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority TourI toured the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority to learn about the 60-tons of recyclables that are processed daily. Healthy, Free Food Available to Low-Income SeniorsThe Senior Food Box Program supplements low-income seniors’ diets with nutritious food, including non-fat dry and shelf-stable fluid milk, juice, oats, ready-to-eat cereal, rice, pasta, dry beans, peanut butter, canned meat, poultry, fish and canned fruits and vegetables. To participate, individuals must be at least 60 years old and meet income eligibility guidelines. A single senior’s annual income may not exceed $18,954, and the income for a couple is capped at $25,636. Seniors who would like to participate should call 800-468-2433 to be directed to the regional food bank distributing the Senior Food Box in their county of residence. Learn more here. |
