Corporal Reid Rex Ross Bridge Dedication Ceremony

This week, I attended a dedication ceremony for the naming of a bridge in Cambria County in honor of United States Marine Corps Corporal Reid Rex Ross, Jr. Reid Rex Ross, Jr. was born in Philipsburg and joined the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, rising to the rank of Corporal with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. On December 4, 1968, Company I was participating in Operation Meade River south of Da Nang when the Marines were engaged by the enemy. Corporal Ross was shot and killed while providing covering fire for an extraction team recovering two of his fellow Marines. Corporal Ross was 19 years old. The bridge carrying State Route 1021 over Glendale Lake in White Township, Cambria County, has been designated as the CPL Reid Rex Ross 3 BN 26 Marine Reg Memorial Bridge.

Cambria County Veterans Appreciation Breakfast

It was an honor to host a Veterans Appreciation Breakfast for the military veterans of Cambria County this week. This event was a small display of appreciation of the service and sacrifice of the veterans in our community.

Ribbon Cutting at JWF Industries

This week, I took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the expansion of JWF Industries in Johnstown. The expansion was made possible with a significant investment of state funding, and I am proud to have played a role in the process. This expansion will bring even more well-paying, family sustaining jobs to the Johnstown area.

PA Municipal Authorities Association Region 5 Fall Meeting

Last week, my staff attended the fall meeting of the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association, Region 5 in Boalsburg.

PA Families to Receive More Support Saving for the Future

Families saving for educational expenses and costs for those with disabilities could soon have more support from their employers.

A tax credit will encourage employers to contribute to their employees’ PA 529 College and Career Savings Program accounts and PA ABLE accounts. Beginning January 2025, employers will receive a 25% tax credit on matching employer contributions of up to $500 per employee per year.

The law helps employers offer their employees a significant benefit so they can attract the best workers while receiving a financial incentive themselves. It supports Senate Republicans’ priorities of empowering Pennsylvania families and protecting Pennsylvania jobs.

Bill Giving Parents Info About Student Tick Removal Now Law

Legislation giving parents the opportunity to access important information about their child’s health was approved by the Senate and is now law. It requires schools to notify a parent or guardian if a tick is removed from a student and provide the tick to them for testing.

When discovering a tick on yourself, a family member or a pet, it’s important to send it to the Pennsylvania Tick Research Lab at East Stroudsburg University. For free, the tick can be tested for common illnesses to provide you and your health care provider with valuable information about potential exposure.

For more than a decade, Pennsylvania has had more cases of Lyme disease than any other state in the nation. While Lyme disease is reason enough to take precautions, ticks also carry a host of other illnesses with undesirable symptoms.
