The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education, Workforce, Community & Economic Development will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, in Fishertown PA to hear testimony on efforts to identify barriers to student learning, increase school safety and keep kids in school, according to Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35).
The hearing will be held at the Chestnut Ridge Middle School Auditorium, located at 3281 Valley Road, Fishertown.
Langerholc said the hearing will focus on efforts to help students through the use Communities in Schools, the nation’s largest dropout prevention organization. The Johnstown School District is the third poorest school district in Pennsylvania and has a high transient rate, positioning the district for the CiS program.
Among those scheduled to testify are Dr. Mark Kudlawiec, Superintendent of the Chestnut Ridge School District, who will discuss the need for additional counseling, social workers and services in area schools.
